The AMPTOP TUBE PRE is a tube preamp pedal that features your choice of (EF86, 5879, 7025 etc.) preamp tube, running at 300 volts courtesy of a 12v step-up power supply.

The controls are straight forward: Volume and Tone. True bypass toggle on the right side of the unit, and a gain/treble boost on the left. The enclosure is a Hammond 1454E (4x5x2”), and the buildout features Switchcraft jacks, Alpha pots, and Gorva switches. The white LED on the rear of the unit indicates that the preamp is on. 

My take on the classic Rangemaster amptop treble booster, the AMPTOP TUBE PRE is a continuation of my PRE- series, inspired by customer feedback - folks looking for a smaller footprint, running the preamps last in the chain for some color before the amp. These units are hardwired, with a mix of new and vintage parts for reliable construction and classic, vintage tone. The goal is to provide a tube pre that makes your amp’s tone somewhat irrelevant… with the AMPTOP TUBE PRE, you should be able to dial in all of the character of your favorite vintage amp. An ideal solution for gigging musicians that rely on random backline amps.

Hey man! I’m sorry I’ve been so swamped, but when I wind down at night and play for a few hours, I’ve been using your preamp nonstop! Just awesome! And the coffee beans rule too, thank you! I got a little Peavey head for my son’s birthday and was trying it out. I couldn’t believe it’s all tube and I could barely get a passable clean sound much less a dirty sound! The next day your preamp arrived and I tried it in the fx loop in the back… holy cow I barely had to touch it to rip! At noon it drove the tubes perfectly and the tone now had a beautiful bite to the midrange.
