The OCTALAMPTOP evolves the design of the PRE85 & PREF86 as an all-tube hardwired preamp pedal, but now in the convenient amp top format. The feedback from customers on the PREF86 and PRE85 indicated that the preamps were best as “always on” units at the end of the chain, right before the amp to buffer and improve clarity coming from the pedalboard.

The OCTALAMPTOP the 6SJ7 pentode. The 6SJ7 is a tube that I have included in my Filmosound 179 builds, inspired by the preamp in the 1950s Gibson GA-20 amps. A forerunner to the 9-pin 5879 pentode that’s found in the Filmosound 385 and Gibson GA-40 amps, the 6SJ7 was the later version of the 6J7 that was featured in the Filmosound 179. The 6SJ7 does what any good pentode can do - captures the full spectrum of your playing, all the details of your fingers/pick attack, with an awesome resonance.
